ASOS.com CEO Upsets Affiliates
When you’ve built your business from scratch with the help of affiliates, it probably doesn’t make the best business sense to turn around and call them “Grubby little people in grubby little studios”. But that’s exactly what Nick Robertson, CEO of ASOS.com did.
A quote taken from New Media Age appears to reveal his true feelings:
“Next year we’ll reintroduce affiliate marketing but as it should be, as opposed to affiliates as they were” said Nick Robertson, ASOS CEO. “[There'll be] no silly commissions being paid to grubby little people in grubby studios growing income at our expense, getting in the way of genuine sales”
Not only are some of the people he offended hard working affiliates who drove loyal customers to their door, but some are also undoubtedly shareholders – many of whom are also blogging about this faux pas, potentially polluting the natural SERPS for years to come with similar blog entries to this and in doing so, generating massive negative opinion for the ASOS brand.
It just goes to show that when your mother told you to think before you open your mouth, she was talking sense!
